Being Ready

Early this year, we were trying to stock up and make sure that we were prepared in case of an emergency.  I ordered bulk food and stocked up our pantry in case of a tight budget week or a period without electricity.  James made emergency kits for our cars.  We went through our medicine cabinet and made sure our first aid kit was stocked.

After having everyone in the household sick at the same time, I realized just how unprepared we were, especially for this scenario.   We had a fridge full of Thanksgiving day leftovers, but nothing for an uneasy tummy to eat.  Running to the grocery store was not an option.  I vowed at 2 am that I would put together a grocery bag full of “sick” food and supplies and hide it away for next time.

Things on my list to include:

  • Tissues
  • Wet wipes
  • Toilet paper
  • 7-Up, Gatorade, Pedialyte?
  • Crackers
  • Canned chicken noodle soup
  • Jell-O or something like it
  • Straws

What am I missing?  What things do you have to have when you’re sick?

  1. dried or candied ginger
    chicken broth (I freeze it by the quart and then thaw as needed)
    ‘entertainment’ for children (puzzle books, special books, non-messy craft supplies)

    Other than those, I think your list is pretty complete. 😀
