Homemade Vapor Rub

With all the colds going on around here over the past month or two, I was inspired to do a little something about it.  We tried to rest and drink plenty of water and hot tea, but there wasn’t much relief at night with the congestion. That’s when I stumbled on this recipe for a vapor rub for kids on Simple Organics.  I modified it a bit and LOVED the results!

Here’s the recipe with my modifications:

1 oz coconut oil

1 oz olive oil

6 drops tea tree essential oil

4 drops eucalyptus essential oil

4 drops lavender essential oil

Warm the coconut oil until liquid.  Combine all ingredients.  Let sit until solidified at room temperature or in the fridge.

It was wonderful to use on the baby, big kids, and even myself.  It did seem to help us all get a little more sleep at night!

  1. Hi there– you won the Seasons of Joy Spring giveaway! I couldn’t find your email address anywhere, but if you want to email me at frontzfamily at gmail dot com, I can get it to right away. Congratulations!

  2. Mama A, this is perfect! We NEED this AND! we have all the ingredients! Thank you for posting! Is this associated with Kara’s new (and wonderfully dandy!) gig?

  3. There’s a recipe for an old-fashioned cure-all that is similar to this. It’s called GOOT, I think. It is equal parts coconut oil, olive oil, and (crushed) garlic oil. It is supposed to surpass the sum of its parts as a super anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-microbial rub that’ll cure whatever ails.

Thanks for the non-petroleum recipe. I’m sure it is very soothing and effective, without the yuck.
